About Course

Grade 8 prepares students for the transition to high school by strengthening higher-order thinking, academic independence, and subject mastery. Learners engage with complex texts and produce advanced written work, apply algebraic reasoning and geometry in problem-solving, conduct detailed science investigations, and study significant historical events with a focus on analysis and interpretation. The curriculum promotes research skills, evidence-based argumentation, and cross-curricular connections that encourage both academic excellence and real-world application.

Course Content

English
Strengthens grammar, advanced vocabulary, and sentence fluency while guiding students through literary analysis and varied writing forms, including argumentative, narrative, and expository essays.

Focuses on pre-algebra and introductory algebra, functions, geometry (angles, transformations, coordinate geometry), and statistics/probability with an emphasis on real-world applications.

SCIENCE
Covers physical science (force, motion, energy), life science (genetics, ecosystems), and earth science (astronomy, geology), with labs and hands-on experiments to reinforce scientific thinking.

SOCIAL STUDIES/ HISTORY
Examines major U.S. historical eras from the American Revolution through Reconstruction, introduces world history connections, and develops civic literacy through government and current events study.

READING
Develops advanced comprehension strategies, critical analysis of texts, understanding of themes and symbolism, and evaluation of author’s purpose across novels, nonfiction, poetry, and primary sources.
